Bell Bajao!
Ending violence in the domestic space, requires a sense of awareness for one’s rights, active participation, and innovative thinking. It is an age old issue, in desperate need of serious attention from all of us. If there was a poster on this, it should read:
YOU CAN REDUCE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Gender no bar. Caste no bar. Religion no bar. Age no bar. Nationality no bar.
This is what I believe the Bell Bajao campaign encompasses – it is a fresh & innovative approach to an old issue. It is a simple call to action that you really can’t resist, because the campaign gives you no ground for objection to its vision and approach. Rather than beating down old doors with narrow & outdated approaches, Breakthrough seems to have turned the tide by recognizing domestic violence for what it truly is – a human rights issue. It is not just a woman’s issue or worse…just a dowry issue…it goes above and beyond all that!
Moreover, the campaign understands the importance of involving the individual in bringing about intervention through simple means. Their call to action is not a complicated mandate, with cluttered unactionable messages. If each of us are entitled to respect & dignity, then we have to practice the same for others – Domestic violence affects everyone in one way or another, so it is only fair that we do what we can to reduce its prevalence. Society is after all, made up of individuals and it is our individual actions that come together to bring about change – however small they may be.
Ignorance in this case, – is NOT bliss, so BELL BAJAO & bring domestic violence to a screeching halt, the world over!!

Hi,
My sister in law is one of the victims of Domestic Violence. Now that she has filed a case against her in laws there is no action from any corner of social protectors. There is a silence every where and no one to answer to our question. Can you help??

Thank you reader. We’re glad that you’ve been reading and following our blog. The main theme of our blog is ‘violence against women’ under the broad concern of ‘human rights’. Domestic violence is the key issues but as you’ve read, we also like to engage in discussions of gender, gender & sexuality etc.

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.
