death due to domestic violence

We have to report to you that the death of my sister, xxx on 31.1.2009 at Safdarjung Hospital is in very suspicious circumstances and requires a full-fledged independent investigation. It is being alleged that my sister, xxx had committed suicide on 27.1.2009 by putting fire on herself and thereafter suffered 85% burns and was admitted to Burns Department of Safdarjung Hospital where she expired on 31.1.2009. Over a number of years, my sister has been subjected to domestic violence and tortured by her husband (who is handicapped) and by her in laws xxx and including her sisters in law. My sister was tortured and abused every now and then and was driven to commit suicide on various earlier occasions. I have evidence of my sister being subjected to domestic violence when she wrote letters to her family a few years back. In fact on 26.1.2009 at about 10.30 pm, the son of my sister – xxx gave a call to me stating that there is a quarrel amongst his father and mother and that I should come immediately. Considering that such incidents were happening on regular intervals, I avoided going to pacify the situation thinking that the situation would ease by the morning and my going there would only aggravate the situation. However, I called my sister’s residence at about 11.30 PM on 27.1.2009 when I came to know that she put herself to fire and has been taken to the hospital. I was shocked and immediately rushed to the hospital. There were frequent quarrels amongst my sister and her husband and my sister on the night of 26.1.2009 and put herself on fire on 27.1.2009 at about 11 AM. This would be revealed on proper investigation in this matter. My sister is a victim of Domestic Violence and has been abused and harassed and in light of these facts, I would request that a proper independent investigation be conducted in the matter so that the culprits are not able to go scot free as this is a case of abetment to commit suicide by my sister as she had been driven to commit suicide on account of the harassment, abuse, torture etc., which she was subjected to by her husband, xxx and her in laws including her sisters in law. I and all my family members will co-operate with you fully in providing all the information in the interest of justice so that the culprits are brought to book. Yours faithfully, xxx
