Hitman
A few years ago, a lot of attention on the net turned to discussing Hitman – a video game. Why – due to their choice of advertising/marketing the game. I am drawing from the original discussion thread started by Joystiq . These ads were found in the PC gamer magazines in 2006, and this site seemed the perfect place to discuss it a little more.

I know it’s sometimes unfair to pick on ads, and I am sure they have other ads….with men probably, BUT the point is why sell a game with an ad like this? It seems to be in poor taste, and the words ‘beautifully executed’ & ‘shockingly executed’ don’t do the ad any favours other than sell some sort of violent fantasy. Why should they have to resort to using beautiful women wearing practically nothing, in sexual positions to sell a game that really is about the main character and his finesse?
It seems these ads are only placed on the mags, if you visit the actual website (http://www.eidosinteractive.com/gss/legacy/hitman_bm/main.html ), which I did – there is no sign of these ads. Surprisingly enough, the downloads offered on the site actually focus on the primary character – HITMAN. So, it leaves me thinking, the promoters of the game didn’t deem their own primary character suitable enough to draw enough crowds & cash, but felt the above imagery would sell better. What does that say?
