International Women's Day events in Asia
Could one of us – the women of 21st century imagine being subjected to discrimination?
Southeast asian women have been subjected to highest restriction as compared to the west. By any standard- educational level, employment, or legal protection–women were and are subordinate to men. Amongst all this discrimination many women are emerging as true winners in all fields be it professions such as law and medicine or politics and government.
Many of these educated women have taken the lead in forming local and national NGOs that are addressing a variety of women’s issues and raising awareness in the broader society of the need for action.
The political influence of women has been instrumental in bringing about legal and policy changes such as legislation in India to prohibit the use of prenatal diagnostic tests for sex determination.
However, there is a yet a long way to go before we could say women truly enjoy the status of equality with reference to the opposite sex. And with comparatively fewer opportunities available to them they have proven and surpassed all expectations…
Let us together promise a better and more progressed Asia…..
It is said, “An educated man empowers the society but an educated woman uplifts a nation.”
Lets make a difference to ourselves, our family, our society, our nation and the world….
