The Chosen Entries for Blog Action Week – It Takes Two

April 17, 2009adminblog0

Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys…

Leading up to International Women’s Day, Bell Bajao had hosted the exciting Blog Action Week – It Takes Two: Women and Men Unite To End Violence Against Women. We asked you to join the action by telling us how you or anyone you knew, worked towards promoting Women’s Rights through their actions, their beliefs, their music or art.

And to tell you the truth, we were overwhelmed by the response. The stories covered a gamut of emotions – hope, angst, resilience, anticipation, fear and motivation – and we were thrilled to bits to see that you consider Bell Bajao as a sounding board for all that you want to share on the subject. We were also excited to have Campaign Ambassador Boman Irani and Former U.N. Secretary General Shashi Tharoor shared their thoughts with us on the issue of violence against women.

Over eight days of celebrating women and men who support women’s rights, we received innumerable  thought provoking blog posts. Thank YOU so much for writing about the unsung heroes. There were some remarkable stories that came through. In acknowledgement of all your efforts, our media partner 9X and event partners WAVE Cinemas and Springs Blossoms have offered to give movie tickets and flower bouquet coupons. Here is the shortlist:

K.F. Malindi Jr. wrote a stimulating blog post titled ‘On International Women’s Day: Rihanna rung the bell’ on Hip Hop artistes Chris Brown and Rihanna. The other set goes out to Ben for his post titled ‘Just Yell Fire’ where he pays tribute to an innovative way of self defense for women. Congratulations K.F. and Ben!! Your posts were the ones that got our antennae up and buzzing! Wave cinemas would like to give you couple tickets for any movie at their theatres.

Spring Blossoms sponsored 5 flower bouquet coupons of Rs 1000 each, which can be used for delivering breathtaking flower arrangements to any part of the country. The lucky ones in this section are Varsha Bhambhani for her post titled ‘Run’, Maithili Desai for her post titled ‘Women on Top‘ , Aditi Uppal for her poem titled ‘The List of Chores’, Sean Sokhi for his post titled ‘Resounding the bell purposefully’ and Bauddhayan Mukherji for his poignant post on the making of our Bell Bajao TV Commercials.. Congratulations to all of you, each of your posts were gripping and powerful.

All the winners should contact Kritika at kritika@breakthrough.tv to claim their coupons.

We thank each one of you, regardless of whether or not you are mentioned here, from the bottom of our hearts for your thought provoking contributions. It was your support which made Blog Action Week tremendously successful, and we hope you will continue to support us in every endeavour that Bell Bajao makes.

For It Takes Two to end violence, doesn’t it?
