In The News: Singer Rachel Brown speaks to victims of domestic violence
"For many women, broken bones and wounds may heal, but mental and emotional scars never do," says renowned recording artist Rachel Brown, of the Urban Music Group.
In a recent media release, Brown sends out a message to the victims of domestic violence: "Learn To Love Yourself First". She adds, "Place a higher priority on learning to love and value who you are over the love you give someone else". While explaining how this helps, she says, "When you realise the power and value of loving who you are, it can provide the strength and wisdom needed to avoid or walk away from abusive relationships."

Studies show that victims of domestic violence are generally found to suffer from low self-esteem, which prevents them from leaving the abuser. Walking away from an abusive relationship not only requires a lot of courage, but also presents a huge challenge for the survivors to move on and live a normal life. On this, Brown says, "If you develop a concept of self love, a true love and care for yourself, you soon learn that staying becomes detrimental to your well being, thus you can find that courage to move on with your life."
Her latest single, "Learn to Love Me", reflects her views on domestic violence.
