When we talk about domestic violence, discussions often fall into the realm of the more visible form of abuse i.e. physical abuse. Other forms of abuse like emotional, sexual, financial, mental etc are routinely ignored. This link presents a comprehensive chart on the behaviours abusers use to keep control of their relationships. The article here says "Battering is a choice. It is used to gain power and control over another person. Physical abuse is only one part of a system of abusive behaviors. Abuse is never a one time event.
