Sexuality & HIV/AIDS- The right to a life with dignity is the basis of all human rights. This includes sexual well-being – to a healthy and self-affirming sexuality free of violence, coercion, and disease. This human right is being violated: high numbers of the HIV+ people in India are women, with most of them having contracted the virus from their husbands or partners.Watch and use Breakthrough’s stirring videos, interactive trainings and thorough publications to learn more to end this stigma and discrimination.
Violence against Women – Every person in this world is entitled to a fundamental set of human rights that allow her or him to live with dignity and self-respect. For too long, women have been regarded as less than human, and therefore, not entitled to these human rights.Breakthrough works to transform attitudes towards women so that they can realize their full potential. One key example is our Mann Ke Manjeere music video that has become a cult classic that speaks to woman’s celebration of self-discovery and the ability to make choices in life.
Race & Immigrant Rights- We produce media, tool kits and events that emphasize the need to build connections across our many concerns and identities. These include:Video games like, ICED I Can End Deportation, that puts players inside the shoes of an immigrant to see what its like to have no due process or human rights, interactive sites like Homeland Guantanamo, where you’re the undercover investigative reporter exposing inhumane detention conditions and learn about DHS accountability and much more!
Human Rights- Our interpretation determines how we relate to and treat each other.The rights to life, food, shelter, freedom of expression, freedom from violence, religious freedom – these are all human rights to which we are all entitled. Breakthrough uses media, pop culture and education to build this culture of human rights so that we can learn to be tolerant, diverse, respectful and respected world citizens.
Religion & Peace- As the U.D.H.R. states, everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. Breakthrough has created several media pieces to uphold these beliefs: albums Haman Hain Ishq album and Junoon for Peace.
